    TheCagefighterman & IamDaKanDao;
Yeah, screw the tourists-so what if they spend thousands of dollars to experience once in a lifetime what Mauians can & do all the time.

  2. IamDaKanDao says:

@JohnO318 Yes, they not only should be on the far right side, it is the law.

  3. TheCagefighterMan says:

@JohnO318 Stay on the right side, as the law states. There are very few times these bikes can keep to the speed limit. That is why they have their vans, and sometimes cars, following the group, and going well under the speed limit. That is a real safety issue. Get your butts over, and take those vans away

  4. TheCagefighterMan says:

@JohnO318 Very dangerous ride. Bike need to stay on the right side of the roadway. That is not only the safest place, but it is the law, not that, that matters to most of these companies.

@HiMinds i heard they are not too happy.

  6. HiMinds says:

@singapore7773 imagine how the people who live here feel

  7. singapore7773 says:

with all due respect, this is a joke. Bicycling is very dangerous and then u take people who dont usually ride, and put them in a very dangerous place, namely a major downhill. Not a good idea me thinks. i rode up and down to the top last march and i was really shocked by these people crawling along completely out of their zone.

@muchetti Awesome! One less person on the Freeway! and more natural resources for me!

  9. akuburu says:

We went downhill in October 2010! It was great fun despite the rain!

  10. mauikanenokaoi says:

The only road rage that is one the roads are the ones that are speeding. Summit to sea speed limit is 15-30 mph tops.

  11. muchetti says:

A Minnesota woman who lost control of her bicycle during a downhill bicycle tour on Maui died on Wednesday, the Maui News reported.
Karen Narveson, 64, of Mankato suffered head injuries after she crashed into an embankment on the north shoulder of Baldwin Avenue below the Maui Veterans Cemetery, police said. The accident happened at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday. She died the next day at Maui Memorial Medical Center.

  12. okmobilemechanic says:

And if I remember correctly, ANY traffic (bikes included) that are exceeding the posted limit are subject to fines/citations. The majority of the bike trip downhill was at speeds at or close to the posted speed limits. Therefore, the safest place for the cyclist is in the lane, not on the shoulder.

  13. okmobilemechanic says:

Having worked several Years on the volcano and ridden literally – Thousands of miles (approximately 22,000) down Haleakala, I believe I can say that the safety of the downhill bike tourists was First and foremost our priority. I worked for Cruiser Bob for several years and had 1 (one) injury on my tour. That was due to the rider not following safety procedure. Btw- if I remember correctly, the speedlimit was 25mph through most of the trip above Kula and in the park.

  14. muchetti says:

Staying on the right side is the law. It is more dangerous for the tourist to stay in the middle of the roadway. This had lead to road rage, as well as most of the fatal accidents. Stay to the far right. We’ll all get along and you’ll be safer. Check out website at bike Maui safety for more details. Stay safe, enjoy yourself. Aloha

  15. JohnO318 says:

No, they shouldn’t be on the right side. Think for a moment. These are tourists who have never been on the edge of a 10,000 foot volcano before. The right side is too dangerous. The tour guides set up frequent opportunities for the cars to pass. The tourists are given complete instructions at the top of the mountain before the bike ride.
Motorists need to be patient. It’s Maui brah!!

  16. muchetti says:

These riders should be on the right side of the roadway. Blocking the road has let to road rage as well as many accidents. Go to the website at bikemauisafety to read about the accidents, deaths and problems with many of these companies.

I went on this tour last month during my Hawaii vacation. Uncle Joe was such a great guide and this is one of the few ghost tours where I got very freaked out. A woman on the tour got some kinetic energy on one of her photos (this was at the heiau). However, I don’t see any clips of the Chinese cemetery, did your tour group go there?
